Middle School Social Studies Reviewers' Hub
Bring Learning Alive with TCI
TCI’s History Alive! programs transform middle school social studies into a multi-faceted learning experience both in-class and in the distance learning environment. Our blended learning approach inspires and excites students to learn as they make relevant connections between the content and their everyday lives.
Every TCI lesson starts with a big idea—Essential Questions — and incorporates graphic notetaking, groupwork, and step-by-step discovery. Students are the center of instruction that taps a variety of learning styles, allowing students of all abilities to learn and succeed. All materials are field tested to ensure their effectiveness for all students, from emerging readers to English learners to advanced learners.
Distance Learning Support
At TCI, we believe learning is not confined to the classroom. Our flexible, NGSS standards-aligned curriculum allows teachers for a seamless transition from classrooms to virtual environments with various resources and tools in our digital platform. We are committed to making sure that our curriculum and products keep teachers and students ahead and never behind in the ever changing world of education.
- Distance learning tips are located throughout the program so teachers know which lesson activities are easily modifiable for distance learning. Teachers also have the ability to edit and share lesson presentations with TCI’s distance learning feature.
- The Lesson Game, which can be done individually or together as a class, provides an engaging and fun way to formatively assess students’ mastery of concepts and skills.
- Learning Management System integrations such as Google Classroom, Canvas, and Schoology allow for easy classroom management in the virtual environment as teachers have the ability to assign work with a click of a button.
- Customizable online assessments include a variety of selected response and constructed response questions that assess the state standards.
TCI provides everything you need in one place. We offer ready-to-teach lesson presentation, print and digital student resources, and a variety of assessments to assess student progress and master of content and skills. Experience teaching an entire TCI lesson from start to finish with the Review Guide below. The Review Guide will walk you through an entire TCI inquiry cycle and show you how we cover all framework and standards in a lesson while engaging students.
Framework, Benchmarks, and Beyond
Drive Student Inquiry and Engagement
Every TCI lesson utilizes at least one of our six unique, hands-on classroom strategies. TCI activities get students excited and asking questions; they are inspired to learn more and conduct purposeful research. Investigating Primary Sources sections challenge students to carefully analyze historical documents and draw conclusions.
Promote Active Citizenship
Students “do democracy” through civic discourse and by engaging with their local communities. They build historical empathy by reading various perspectives and make written and oral arguments and share claims with evidence. Students take informed action when appropriate.
Writing assignments are aligned to Common Core to strengthen students’ literacy skills and support cross-disciplinary instruction. ELA/ ELD standards are reinforced throughout the activities and notebook prompts.
TCI classroom activities are presented in ways so all students can access content and skills; specific directions are provided to further differentiate instruction. All legal and statutory requirements are incorporated in a meaningful way.
We’d love to support you every step of the way.
